WHY STEM?

STEM is an acronym that refers to the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in these disciplines in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects,STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications. Deccan airsports aims at inculcating STEM through aviation related concepts.

OUR GOAL

There is a need to be globally competitive and stem is the stepping stone. In order to tap the infinite possibilities within the minds of youngsters it is our responsibility to provide the neccessary knowledge and infrastructure. Aviation being a blooming and interesting field in the present era, gives us the oppurtunity to achieve the above through our expertise.

STEM IN AVIATION

Hot Air Balloons

Ballooning was the first successful means of flight, even before the plane or gliders. A hot air balloon in France, 1783, was the pioneer for new means of transportation. Hot air balloons are the oldest, successful flight technology, and its flight relies on Archimedes’ principle of buoyancy and Ideal Gas Laws. Air inside the balloon is heated, causing gas molecules to disperse and achieve a lower average density. The density gradient of air inside the balloon and air outside allows resultant buoyancy, as long as the density of air trapped in balloon is lower than that of surrounding air the balloon can stay aloft. The heating to achieve lower density in the trapped air of the balloon is done through the use of fuels, with the most common being propane fuels. Propane is preferred over other hydrocarbons because its low boiling point allows a consistently higher vapour pressure for a given temperature, and is therefore a more efficient fuel.
